Variable DC power supply

Overview

This project implements a compact adjustable DC power supply capable of delivering a regulated output between 2–14 V. The design integrates transformer-based AC conversion, rectification, filtering capacitors, and voltage regulation on a custom printed circuit board.

The final system is mounted inside an aluminum enclosure with front-panel banana jacks for output connections and a potentiometer knob to adjust the output voltage.

Circuit Design

The power supply begins with a step-down transformer converting 120 VAC to a lower AC voltage. A diode bridge rectifier converts the AC signal into DC, which is then smoothed using large electrolytic capacitors.

A linear voltage regulator stage allows the output voltage to be adjusted through a potentiometer, providing a stable and controllable DC output.

PCB Layout

The PCB was designed to minimize wiring complexity and ensure stable power distribution. Large copper traces handle the higher current paths while providing a compact layout suitable for the enclosure.
